RTX’s Pratt & Whitney Canada selected by Clean Aviation to lead PHARES hybrid-electric propulsion consortium
Selection marks the first time a Canadian company will participate in and lead a Clean Aviation program

Pratt & Whitney Canada participated in ILA Berlin as part of the Clean Aviation exhibit, showcasing the PHARES hybrid-electric propulsion demonstrator and an immersive interactive experience designed to highlight the technologies being developed through the program.A highlight of the exhibit was a first-of-its-kind RTX display combining a 60% scale 3D-printed PHARES propulsion system model with a 77-inch (196 cm) transparent touchscreen OLED display, the largest transparent touchscreen OLED application of its kind. Through interactive digital overlays, visitors explored the hybrid-electric propulsion architecture, system integration, and key technologies supporting the PHARES program, including the Collins Aerospace electric control, motor and advanced propeller.
The experience also featured an interactive consortium map highlighting the Canadian and European research and industry partners contributing to PHARES, as well as a digital rendering of the DEMETRA aircraft that enabled visitors to explore a cutaway view of the propulsion system, electrical architecture, and battery integration. The exhibit attracted strong interest from industry stakeholders, researchers, and government representatives, providing an opportunity to showcase Pratt & Whitney Canada’s ongoing contributions to hybrid-electric propulsion and Clean Aviation’s objectives.

Earlier this year in March, Pratt & Whitney Canada attended the Clean Aviation Annual Forum in Brussels. A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Hany Sarhan, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Regionals and APU, which emphasized Canada-EU collaboration. The keynote was introduced with a video message from Maria Della Posta, President of Pratt & Whitney Canada, reinforcing the importance of international partnerships in driving innovation.
The PHARES exhibit was unveiled, featuring a 60% scale 3D-printed model, which captured attention from attendees. The display underscored the ongoing advancements in hybrid-electric propulsion and Pratt & Whitney Canada and Collins Aerospace’s contributions to Clean Aviation’s mission.

Earlier this year in February, at the Singapore Airshow, Pratt & Whitney Canada highlighted its shared focus with Clean Aviation on the future of hybrid-electric propulsion. Show attendees had the opportunity to learn about the project through an interactive touchscreen kiosk that highlighted the key propulsion and electric drive subsystems by Pratt & Whitney Canada and Collins Aerospace.
PHARES Kick-Off Meeting Successfully Held in Brussels
